How to make your own play dough a.k.a. Play Doh

Thank you to one of our reader, who suggested for play dough for our mommy-daughter bonding time.

It works well I tell you!

We were both down with flu, and mak nye siap batuk sekali, so we didn’t manage to visit Toys R Us to get some Play Doh for our activity. Since I read before, that you can actually make your own play dough, I went and search for the recipe online.

Easy peasy.

I managed to get them done in less than 30 minutes. Kalau drive dari Kelana Jaya, silap silap tak dapat parking lagi di One Utama.

Let's goooosssss! (bak kata Aiyu, let's gos bukan let's go ye)

Ingredients:-

2 cups of flour
2 cups of warm water
1 cup of salt
2 tbsp of oil
1 tbsp of cream of tartar

Method:-

Mix all the ingredients over low heat. I suggest for you to dilute the salt in warm water before adding the other ingredients, to get the silky smooth texture.

When the dough pulls away from the pan, remove from heat. Allow the dough to cool off before handling.

Knead until the dough is smooth (Play Doh like texture). If it’s sticky, heat it a bit longer.

Divide into balls (I made 8 balls). Press the middle, put any food color of your choice. Fold the dough over, try not to handle the raw color on your hand. If you do (like I did), well, wash it, hahaha…

Taaa daaaa! My first red play dough!

I had only red color in hand, so awal-awal tu main warna merah dengan putih aje lah. Bila duk main ni dengan Cik Aiyu, baru aku perasan, yang aku ni tak kreatif sungguh. Memula buat burger, lepas tu buat hot dog. Pas tu pizza. Demm… semua makanan belaka!

Selepas bapa ku pulang dari kota, bapa ku belikan pewarna.

Store it in air tight container. If it gets dry, just add some water and knead it again. If it gets too sticky, heat it for a while.

Or, you can always make it again! Not only it's easy to do, you won’t be too worried if your kid eats it too, because they are just flour and salt (a bit too salty though).

Enjoy!
